CHICAGO (CBS) — Iconic Chicago chef Charlie Trotter, whose namesake restaurant set a global standard for culinary excellence for a quarter century, has died. Trotter, 54, was found unresponsive at his Chicago home in Lincoln Park on Tuesday morning.

Nonetheless, the chef's philanthropic efforts earned him various humanitarian awards for his Charlie Trotter's Culinary Education Foundation in which he hosted underprivileged students at his restaurant and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars

With lit candles in hand, members of Chicago's culinary scene, came to Trotter's now-closed Lincoln Park restaurant to remember a chef who put Chicago on the restaurant map. They worked for him, they were influenced by him and they all say Charlie
